What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryExtends payments to rural schools and counties
This bill extends a program that sends federal funding to states and counties that contain federal land. The program pays out money through fiscal year 2026, with specific payments set for 2024 and 2025. It also extends the ability of counties to start projects using these funds, and allows resource advisory committees (local groups that help decide how to use the money) to propose projects through 2028.
How it affects you
This directly affects rural schools, counties, and communities near federal land, which depend on these payments for funding schools and local services. If you live in or near a county with federal land, this means continued funding for schools and community projects in your area. People in other areas won't see a direct effect from this bill.
