What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryStudy of conservation practices on leased farmland
The bill directs the National Agricultural Statistics Service (the part of the Agriculture Department that collects farm data) to study conservation practices on leased agricultural land. The study will look at who participates in conservation programs and what stops farmers and ranchers from adopting conservation practices. The agency can partner with nonprofits or universities to carry out the work, and will pay special attention to farmers and ranchers of color, Black and indigenous farmers and ranchers, and beginning farmers and ranchers.
How it affects you
If you're a farmer or rancher who leases land, this study could eventually lead to new tools or programs to help you adopt conservation practices. The study's focus on farmers and ranchers of color and beginning farmers means their specific challenges will be examined. For most people, the direct effect is limited to this research phase, though the findings could inform future conservation efforts.

Conservation for Agricultural Leased Land Act or the CALL Act
This bill directs the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the Department of Agriculture to carry out a study and make recommendations regarding conservation practices on leased agricultural land.
The study must (1) address issues such as participation in conservation programs and barriers to adopting conservation practices; and (2) be carried out with particular consideration of farmers and ranchers who are people of color, including Black and indigenous farmers and ranchers, and beginning farmers and ranchers.
NASS may enter into an agreement with a nonfederal entity (e.g., a nonprofit entity or university) to carry out the study.
