What this bill does

In plain words · AI-written from the official summary

Keeps Coast Guard pay flowing during budget gaps

When Congress hasn't passed a budget for the Coast Guard by the start of a new fiscal year, this bill automatically provides money to keep paying active-duty Coast Guard members, reservists doing training, and certain civilian and contract workers who support the Coast Guard or other military branches. It's a safety net that kicks in only when there's a specific funding lapse for the Coast Guard.

How it affects you

If you're a Coast Guard member, reservist, or civilian employee supporting the Coast Guard, this bill means you'd continue receiving your paycheck even if Congress delays passing a budget. For most other Americans, this doesn't have a direct effect, but it ensures the Coast Guard can maintain operations and pay its workforce during budget standoffs.

Coast Guard Sustained Funding Act of 2025

This bill provides continuing appropriations to the Coast Guard for pay and benefits when there is a Coast Guard-specific funding lapse.

Under the bill, a Coast Guard-specific funding lapse occurs when a bill providing appropriations for the Coast Guard for a fiscal year has not been enacted before the beginning of that fiscal year, and no joint resolution providing continuing appropriations for the Coast Guard is in effect.

If a Coast Guard-specific funding lapse occurs, the bill provides appropriations to the Coast Guard for (1) pay and allowances for military members of the Coast Guard, including reserve components, who perform active service or inactive-duty training; and (2) pay and benefits for certain civilian and contract employees who are providing support to members of the Coast Guard or another Armed Force and are working during the funding lapse.
