What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryDirects strategy for trusted technology vendors
This bill asks a federal agency called the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to study the supply chain for information and communication technology—basically, how technology gets made and delivered. Then they have to create a strategy to help U.S. companies and trusted vendors stay competitive in making critical tech, and to reduce dependence on companies that aren't considered trustworthy.
How it affects you
This doesn't create an immediate change for most people. It's mainly a directive for government to study the problem and make a plan. The goal is to eventually strengthen U.S. technology companies over time, which could affect things like which companies supply tech to the country and whether telecommunications services rely on trusted vendors.

This bill requires the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to report on the information and communication technology supply chain and to develop a strategy to ensure the economic competitiveness of trusted information and communication technology vendors.
The report must include (1) an identification of technology that is critical to U.S. economic competitiveness and the industrial capacity of U.S. vendors and other trusted vendors that produce such technology, (2) an assessment of whether and to what extent there is a dependence by providers of advanced telecommunications capability in the United States on technology that is not trusted, and (3) an identification of federal government actions and resources needed to support the economic competitiveness of trusted vendors and reduce dependence on companies that are not trusted.
