What this bill does

In plain words · AI-written from the official summary

Aid for livestock losses from Mexican gray wolves

This bill directs the Department of Agriculture to provide emergency financial relief to livestock producers whose herds have been harmed by Mexican gray wolves. The bill creates a formula to calculate how much relief each producer should receive, taking into account their herd size and the extra costs they face managing their animals around wolves. It also increases the government payment for livestock killed by wolves from 75% of the animal's market value to 100%.

How it affects you

If you raise livestock in areas with Mexican gray wolves, this bill directly affects you. You could receive emergency financial assistance for herd losses and extra management costs, and if wolves kill your animals, you'd be reimbursed for their full market value instead of just three-quarters of it. Most other people won't see a direct change from this bill.

WOlf and Livestock Fairness Act of 2025 or the WOLF Act of 2025

This bill directs the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide emergency relief to producers of livestock with herds adversely affected by Mexican gray wolves.

Specifically, the bill directs the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honey Bees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP) to provide emergency relief to producers of livestock with herds adversely affected by Mexican gray wolves. USDA must develop a formula to determine the amount of emergency relief to provide to a producer of livestock. Among other factors, the formula must take into consideration the herd size of the producer and the average annual increase in management costs for producers in the state due to Mexican gray wolves.

Additionally, the bill modifies USDA's Livestock Indemnity Program. In the case of attacks on livestock by Mexican gray wolves, the bill increases the payment rate from 75% to 100% of the market value of the affected livestock.
