Introduced in the House, sent to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Mar 31, 2025

What this bill does

In plain words · AI-written from the official summary

Requires bathroom access for truck drivers

The bill requires certain businesses—like retailers and warehouses—to let commercial truck drivers use their existing restrooms while the drivers are loading, unloading, or waiting to transport cargo. It also requires marine terminals and port authorities to provide restroom access to drayage truck operators (drivers hauling cargo at ports or rail yards), and to add more restrooms if needed and provide parking nearby.

How it affects you

If you're a commercial truck driver, you'd have guaranteed access to restrooms during work, which currently isn't always available. For businesses and port operators, this creates a new requirement to open their facilities to drivers. Most other people won't directly notice a change from this bill.

Trucker Bathroom Access Act

This bill expands access to restroom facilities for certain commercial truck drivers, including drayage truck operators.

Drayage truck operator means the driver of any in-use on-road vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of greater than 33,000 pounds operating on or transgressing through port or intermodal rail yard property for the purpose of loading, unloading, or transporting cargo, including containerized, bulk, or break-bulk goods.

Specifically, the bill requires certain retailers, warehouses, and other establishments to give commercial truck drivers access to existing restroom facilities when they are loading or delivering cargo, or waiting to load or transport cargo.

Further, operators of marine terminals, including port authorities, must provide drayage truck operators with (1) access to existing restrooms, (2) additional restrooms if necessary, and (3) parking while accessing such restrooms.
