What this bill does

In plain words · AI-written from the official summary

Plan to help veterans find supply chain jobs

The bill requires the Department of Transportation to create and release a public plan called the Veteran to Supply Chain Employee Action Plan. This plan would identify what makes it hard for military members and veterans to find work in supply chain jobs like trucking, rail, and port work, and what challenges employers face when hiring them. It would also recommend specific actions that federal agencies can take to connect veterans and active-duty members with these career opportunities.

How it affects you

If you're a military member or veteran looking for work after service, this plan could help identify what's getting in your way and suggest solutions to make it easier to find jobs in supply chain industries. Employers in trucking, rail, and ports might also benefit from clearer pathways to recruit and retain military talent. Most other people would see this mainly as a resource the government is making publicly available.

Transitioning Retiring And New Service Members to Port Ocean Rail and Truck Jobs Act or the TRANSPORT Jobs Act

This bill requires the Department of Transportation (DOT) to develop and make public the Veteran to Supply Chain Employee Action Plan. Among other elements, the plan must identify (1) barriers and challenges of members of the Armed Forces who are eligible for counseling under the Transition Assistance Program and veterans in searching or training for employment in the supply chain industry, and (2) challenges that supply chain employers face when recruiting, hiring, or retaining veterans and such members of the Armed Forces.

The plan must also recommend specific short- and long-term actions that DOT, the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or the Department of Labor can take to help veterans and such members of the Armed Forces in becoming supply chain employees.
