What this bill does

In plain words · AI-written from the official summary

Funds public transit resilience against climate

This bill sets up a grant program through the Department of Transportation that gives money to states and local governments to strengthen public transportation systems against climate impacts like flooding, sea level rise, wildfires, and severe weather. The grants can pay for standalone projects or parts of larger transportation projects. The DOT would have to report to Congress each year on which grants were given out.

How it affects you

If you use public transportation like buses or trains, this could help protect those systems where you live from being disrupted by climate-related disasters. States and local governments that apply for these grants would be the ones directly managing the projects. The official summary doesn't describe specific changes for individual riders or communities.

Resilient Transit Act of 2025

This bill authorizes the Department of Transportation (DOT) to provide grants under the State of Good Repair Grants Program to assist states and local governments in financing public transportation resilience improvement projects that increase the resilience of public transportation systems from the impacts of climate change, such as sea level rise, flooding, wildfires, extreme weather events, and other natural disasters. Under the program, grants may be used for (1) standalone projects, and (2) components of capital projects.

DOT must submit an annual report to Congress on the grants provided under this bill and publish the report on DOT's website.
