What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryExpands Medicaid coordinated care for sickle cell disease
Right now, state Medicaid programs can set up health homes that coordinate care for certain chronic diseases, but sickle cell disease isn't specifically included. This bill adds sickle cell disease to that list, so states can create health homes to bring together care for people with this condition. States would have to make sure these health homes include dental and vision services, and federal health officials would provide guidance to states on how to set these up.
How it affects you
If you have sickle cell disease and receive Medicaid, this could change your care by making coordinated services available through a health home in your state. Your state would need to offer dental and vision care as part of that coordinated service, though whether your state actually sets up a health home would depend on state decisions.

Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act
This bill allows state Medicaid programs to establish health homes to provide coordinated care for individuals with sickle-cell disease. (Under current law, state Medicaid programs may establish health homes to provide coordinated care for individuals with specified chronic conditions.) States must ensure that such care includes dental and vision services.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services must issue best practices for states on how to design and implement such health homes.
