What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryMore states buy local school produce
This bill expands a program that helps schools buy fresh, unprocessed fruits and vegetables grown in the United States. Right now, only 8 states can participate in this program under the National School Lunch Program. The bill increases that to 14 states and adds new rules about which schools get priority, how the program should be tracked, and what impact it has on local economies and communities that have been left behind.
How it affects you
If you live in one of the additional states now eligible for this program, your local schools could start serving more fresh produce from nearby farms. Schools participating would benefit from closer access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and local farmers might find new buyers for their crops.
