What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryEnsures shipyard workers get paid during shutdowns
During a government shutdown, federal funding typically stops for many programs. This bill sets aside money specifically to keep paying civilian and military workers at public shipyards so they can continue working even if Congress hasn't approved the government's full budget. The payments would continue until Congress passes a budget or until January 1, 2027, whichever comes first.
How it affects you
If you work at a public shipyard as a civilian employee or military personnel, this bill means you'd continue receiving paychecks during a government shutdown instead of having to wait unpaid. For others, it helps ensure shipyard operations don't halt during budget disputes, which can matter if your job depends on shipyard activity or if you live in a community with a major shipyard.

Pay Our Public Shipyard Workers Act
This bill provides continuing appropriations to pay public shipyard workers during any period in which interim or full-year appropriations for FY2026 or FY2027 are not in effect (i.e., a government shutdown).
Specifically, the bill provides continuing appropriations to provide pay and allowances to civilian and military public shipyard workers who work during the government shutdown.
If a government shutdown occurs, the bill provides the continuing appropriations until the earlier of (1) the enactment into law of specified appropriations legislation, or (2) January 1, 2027.
