What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryIncreases military housing allowance for service members
Right now, military members get a housing allowance based on a formula that involves the national average cost of housing. This bill changes how that allowance works. Instead, each service member would receive an amount equal to the actual monthly cost of adequate housing in their specific area, as decided by the Department of Defense, based on their pay grade and whether they have dependents.
How it affects you
If you're on active duty or in the uniformed services stationed inside the United States, this would likely mean a change to your monthly housing allowance. Depending on where you're stationed and housing costs in your area, you could see an increase in what the military pays toward your housing.

BAH Restoration Act
This bill increases the monthly amount of the basic housing allowance for members of the uniformed services inside the United States.
Specifically, the monthly amount of allowance for a member must be the amount of the monthly cost of adequate housing in the area, as determined by the Department of Defense, for members of the uniformed services serving in the same pay grade and same dependency status as the member. (Currently, the allowance is based on the difference between this amount and a percentage of the national average monthly cost of housing for members with the same pay grade and dependency status.)
