What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryAdds hazard mitigation to power restoration funding
When electric utilities get emergency money to restore power after a disaster, this bill also lets them use that funding to do hazard mitigation work at the same time. Hazard mitigation means making improvements to reduce future damage from storms, flooding, or other disasters. The bill also clarifies that utilities can receive separate hazard mitigation funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Public Assistance program for the same facility.
How it affects you
If you live in an area served by an electric utility that receives emergency restoration funding after a disaster, this could mean your power is restored while the utility also takes steps to protect the infrastructure from future damage. This might lead to stronger, more resilient power systems in your community, though the bill itself doesn't detail what specific improvements would look like.
