What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summarySeparates blood transfusion costs in hospice care
The bill asks the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation to test a new way of paying for blood transfusions given to hospice patients. Right now, transfusions are paid as part of a flat daily fee that hospices receive. Under this test, transfusions would be paid separately. The program would measure how this change affects things like hospital visits and how long people stay in hospice care.
How it affects you
This could directly affect hospice patients who need blood transfusions and their families, as it might change how and when transfusions are available. It could also affect hospice providers and Medicare, depending on how the test results show the new payment method works. For most other people, this is a behind-the-scenes change to how one specific medical service gets paid.

Improving Access to Transfusion Care for Hospice Patients Act of 2025
This bill requires the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to test a model under which blood transfusions furnished to an individual receiving hospice care are paid separately from the hospice all-inclusive per diem payment under Medicare. The CMMI must evaluate the model by comparing patients participating in the model with those outside of the model in relation to specified metrics, such as hospital utilization and days of hospice care before the end of life.
