What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryFunds public transit resilience against climate impacts
This bill creates a new grant program through the Department of Transportation that gives money to states and local governments to make their public transportation systems more resilient to climate-related threats. The grants can pay for standalone projects or parts of larger projects designed to protect buses, trains, and transit infrastructure from problems like sea level rise, flooding, wildfires, and extreme weather. The Department of Transportation would report annually to Congress on how the money is being used.
How it affects you
If you rely on public transportation, this could eventually mean your local bus or train system becomes better protected from climate disasters that might otherwise disrupt service. States and cities with transit systems would have federal funding available to upgrade infrastructure in vulnerable areas, though whether your community receives grants would depend on local decisions and grant competition.

Resilient Transit Act of 2025
This bill authorizes the Department of Transportation (DOT) to provide grants under the State of Good Repair Grants Program to assist states and local governments in financing public transportation resilience improvement projects that increase the resilience of public transportation systems from the impacts of climate change, such as sea level rise, flooding, wildfires, extreme weather events, and other natural disasters. Under the program, grants may be used for (1) standalone projects, and (2) components of capital projects.
DOT must submit an annual report to Congress on the grants provided under this bill and publish the report on DOT's website.
