What this bill does

In plain words · AI-written from the official summary

Protects baby formula at airport security

The bill tells the Transportation Security Administration to write clear guidelines for how to handle breast milk, baby formula, and related cooling equipment when they go through extra screening at airports. The goal is to keep these products clean and safe from contamination during that process. It also requires an inspector to check whether airports are following these new rules and report back to Congress.

How it affects you

If you travel by air with a baby, this means security screeners will have clearer instructions on how to handle your breast milk, formula, or juice without contaminating them. Parents bringing these items through airport security should see more consistent and hygienic handling of their baby's food and feeding supplies.

Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Enhancement Act

This bill directs the Transportation Security Administration to issue or update guidance to minimize the risk for contamination of breast milk, baby formula, purified deionized water for infants, juice, and related products that are subject to re-screening or additional screening, including by ensuring adherence to hygienic standards. Related products include ice packs, freezer packs, frozen gel packs, and other accessories required to cool breast milk, baby formula, and juice.

In addition, the bill directs the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General to audit compliance with these requirements and submit a report to Congress.
