On December 5, 2023, Fox News aired a town hall interview hosted by Sean Hannity with then-candidate, Donald Trump, where he was asked, Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody, to which, Trump replied, Except for day one. In speaking to the audience, Trump, referring to Hannity, said, We love this guy. He says you're not going to be a dictator, are you? I said, no, no, no. Other than day one.
