What this bill does
In plain words · AI-written from the official summaryExtends federal payments for rural schools and roads
This bill extends a program that sends federal money to states and counties that contain federal land, like national forests. The money goes toward schools, roads, and other local services. The bill keeps these payments flowing through 2026 and makes up for payments that were missed in 2024 and 2025. It also extends the ability of counties and community groups to use these funds for new projects through 2028.
How it affects you
If you live in a county with federal land, this bill affects your local schools and roads. Schools and county services in these areas rely on these federal payments, so the extension helps keep that funding stable. People in rural communities where federal forests or public lands are nearby will feel this most directly, since their schools and infrastructure depend on this money.
